I really like the fact that you titled your video unlike most of the rest of the class. It makes it seem like you put a lot of thought into your project, and it gives it a sense of cohesiveness and meaning. I like how in your video the viewer can see an image that seems to be in the background of the video the whole time. This image seems to have some underlying meaning in your project. I like how it looks like you have some kind of translucent screen on your video. In that sense it reminds me a little bit of that that moth video we watched in class the other week. I also thought the words (which most people didn't have) really went well with your piece because the lyrics speak for how the viewer is feeling (which is that something is going on but you are not sure what). The fact that you slowed the music down also made it more emphasized and erie which I really enjoyed!
I love the action, the color palette, and the sequence of this video very much! The fact that you had a single image hold out through the entire video was a good call, and helped the whole thing have a concrete structure to sit on. I like the translucent film that seemed to scroll across the screen; it helped the video move along, and gave it an interesting character.
I have to admit I kind of lost it when the lyrics kicked in, because the slowness of the singer was enough to make him sound slightly inebriated. I'm probably just being immature, but that kind of offset the professional quality of the rest of the video. I would have it be just instrumental, so that the lyrics don't distract from the visual sequence.
I liked the composition of this project and the congruent, dramatic theme that held throughout it. Visually it was very nice and interesting to watch and for the most part the music also helped with creating the dramatic vibe but I feel that the lyrics were a bit too literal and took away from it slightly. I think the title was enough to creating the illusion of something being amiss and gearing the viewer to ponder what "has happened or is happening" that the vocals made the concept slightly redundant. Overall this was very enjoyable and interesting.
I think that you have a really strong base with what you have so far; after watching a few more times, I think that it could use one more "element" to break things up and add a little randomness to it. This could be either video or audio, but I was thinking if you filmed something else (maybe with a cooperative-yet-different color pallet), and threw it in here and there, it would add to the complexity and give you something you could use to play with the visual rhythm.
I really like the tone of this video. The music made it seem dark and gritty and the sepia colors gave it a very distinct feeling. I think it could use something more as I felt like I was kinda waiting for something to happen. Even something a simple as a change of pictures in the background. I really like the mood and feel of this video overall though.
The video alone with out sound would have felt very slow, but adding the music was a very wise move. it helped me sink in more to what was going on, and brought me even close the the feels given off from this clip. Aside from the video and audio collaboration the video made me feel slightly more and more restless only because i really wanted to see what was going on in the background.
good use of layering and text. I had a sense that there could be some sort of story that was be happening throughout, though not knowing was frustrating. I actually think there was nothing there, but the music led me to believe so. In which case, that is a nice contradiction. great job all together and with your editing!
Katherine, I'm sorry that I'm only just getting to your video. This is really fantastic. You captured some really great images and the use of the slides adds an element of nostalgia for an older method of making images. So many people in our generation have parents with the infamous box of slides from their trip to Europe that they have to sit you down and show you some day. Good use of that resource. It creates a nice visual when you begin layering slides and then further layering the shots of the slides digitally.
I agree with what has been said above, that perhaps there is something else that needs to happen. Where I identify an opportunity is in the repetition of the pyramid image (this is a building in paris, right?) Since this is the most discernible image of the bunch, where this image periodically changed, it would develop a kind of progression. This wouldn't be a bad way to enrich the imagery with a slight sense of story or at least movement through memories of a nostalgic past, specifically an experience of Europe in the...70's? 80's? It could easily become a piece that is about the process of trying to draw a story out of images that can only speak so much to you directly, a kind of genealogy or familial archeology, perhaps?
